I want to take up the point made by the right hon. Member for Gloucester West when he said the then Government were trying to bring down the cost of politics by reducing the number of MPs from

650 to 600. Does the hon. Gentleman accept that that argument is undermined by the fact that since 2010 more than 200 new peers have been created?
