Childcare Bill [Lords]

Proceeding contribution from Helen Goodman (Labour) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 25 November 2015. It occurred during Debate on bills on Childcare Bill [Lords].

My hon. Friend is pointing out that, according to the Chancellor, to qualify for this free

childcare, a parent needs to be working 16 hours. Coincidentally, I found out that Asda employs 30% of its people on less than 16 hours a week, and they are paid less than the living wage, because they are on the minimum wage. That is probably the case in supermarkets across the land. We are talking about hundreds of thousands of women here.
