Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill

Proceeding contribution from Kate Green (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 21 May 2013. It occurred during Debate on bills on Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill.

I am disappointed in that question. Secular and humanist are not the same. I am not a humanist. I would want a purely secular ceremony were I to be marrying, but others want a ceremony that reflects their beliefs. Humanism is recognised as a strand

of belief. A ceremony to accommodate that deep-held feeling has to be organised and provided if we are to meet the legitimate desires of our humanist friends and neighbours.
