Welfare Reform Bill

Proceeding contribution from Andrew Percy (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 1 February 2012. It occurred during Debate on bills on Welfare Reform Bill.
I will not give way; I want to finish in a moment. When I was a councillor, a lady came to see me. She had inherited a house from her parents. It was her home; she had lived in it with her parents all her life. She would now be considered to be under-occupying that home. I am sure that the Ministers understand this, but I plead with them to take account of the fact that houses are not only public assets; they are also people's homes, and people have an attachment to them. This is not a simple matter to resolve, even though we should encourage an end to under-occupancy.
