Fiscal Responsibility Bill

Proceeding contribution from Kelvin Hopkins (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 5 January 2010. It occurred during Debate on bills on Fiscal Responsibility Bill.
I thank the hon. Gentleman for giving way, as I indicated a little while ago that I wanted to intervene. The core of the hon. Gentleman's rather rambling round-about speech is squeezing public expenditure—wages, capital investment and other spending programmes. Surely that will deflate the economy and raise the level of unemployment, which will make the problem worse by reducing tax revenues and increasing benefit payments.
