Treaty of Lisbon (No. 5)

Proceeding contribution from Doug Henderson (Labour) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 20 February 2008. It occurred during Debates on treaty on Treaty of Lisbon (No. 5).
Is not the reality that there are some circumstances in which it will be far more appropriate for NATO to become involved, usually when there is an north American influence or interest? In other circumstances, where there is still a serious issue to be faced and with a specific European interest, as in Chad, for example—[Hon. Members: ““Chad?””] There is a serious situation in Chad that needs to be addressed and there are many European Union interests involved. It would be better for the EU to provide a combination of forces for that situation, rather than NATO.
