European Union (Amendment) Bill

On article 69D, my hon. Friend spoke earlier about the occasionally sloppy language used, but it is sometimes interesting when the language is deliberately different. We had an exchange earlier about the role of the European public prosecutor's office, which could only exercise the functions of the prosecutor in the competent courts of the member states in relation to certain offences, whereas in relation to Eurojust the provisions make it clear that there is scope for"““the initiation of criminal investigations, as well as proposing the initiation of prosecutions conducted by competent national authorities””." There is a distinct difference: one body can operate independently of national authorities, whereas the other apparently cannot.
