Local Government and Public Involvement in Health Bill

I thank the Minister for her usual—I was going to say ““urbane””, but I mean ““competent””—reply to an enormous number of questions. This is an important area, because we are in some disagreement about how much the Secretary of State should be involved in the whole question of local area agreements and how much he ought to be able to bring national focus into those agreements. There were a great number of amendments, which shifted slightly in different directions; that is the trouble with a mega-grouping. The Minister kindly replied to all of them. I want to read them again and see the exact emphasis, but I must make it clear to the Minister, as I am sure is clear from the amendments, that we are unhappy, even now, about the extent of the role that the Secretary of State will play in local area agreements and the amount of influence that will be wielded in negotiations by the government offices representing the Secretary of State. I feel sure we will come back to this aspect of the Bill in some way, even if not to the same amendments, at the next stage. I beg leave to withdraw the amendment. Amendment, by leave, withdrawn.
