Commons Bill [HL]

Proceeding contribution from Duke of Montrose (Conservative) in the House of Lords on Wednesday, 2 November 2005. It occurred during Debate on bills and Committee proceeding on Commons Bill [HL].
moved Amendment No. 122:"Page 13, line 17, leave out subsection (7)." The noble Duke said: This is a probing amendment. I understand that the Church Commissioners already act on behalf of any ecclesiastical benefice which is vacant. Will the Minister explain why this provision has been included on the face of the Bill? Does she have examples of areas where problems have arisen due to the lack of activity or the lack of powers of the Church Commissioners? I beg to move.
