Question

asked Her Majesty's Government:Further to the Written Answers by Lord Triesman on 12 November (Official Report, col. WA 1–2) and 26 November (WA 98–9), what might be accomplished by performing somatic cell nuclear transfer that could not be accomplished by direct reprogramming of differentiated human cells, as recently described by independent groups in other countries.

Answer

It is too early to say what will be accomplished by reprogramming of differentiated human cells. The current scientific consensus is that all approaches should be pursued to provide the knowledge required to advance the field.
