UK-Rwanda Partnership

Proceeding contribution from Lord Liddle (Labour) in the House of Lords on Thursday, 7 December 2023. It occurred during Ministerial statement on UK-Rwanda Partnership.

My Lords, I return to the Minister’s reply to my question about numbers, because they are important in the question of whether this will be an effective deterrent. His answer was that the scheme is

uncapped, but what is the present capacity of Rwanda to take asylum seekers from the UK? The Government must know that: they have given Rwanda £140 million and are in the process of giving it more, although they will not declare that number to Parliament. What is the capacity? Is the Court of Appeal right that it is 100? Is he saying that the Court of Appeal is wrong?
