Commonwealth Development Corporation Bill

Proceeding contribution from Lord Judd (Labour) in the House of Lords on Thursday, 9 February 2017. It occurred during Debate on bills on Commonwealth Development Corporation Bill.

I am grateful to the Minister for what he has said and the fact that he will write to me, although it is a pity that, because this is a money Bill, we do not have the opportunity to go into these things in Committee. However, will he agree with what has been said by quite a number of noble Lords in this debate, that the CDC, which of course has a lot of admiration, must

remember that job creation and the eradication of poverty are not synonymous? Job creation can play an important part, but the eradication of poverty is a greater issue. We must not let one become a substitute for the other.
