Immigration Bill

Proceeding contribution from Lord Swinfen (Conservative) in the House of Lords on Tuesday, 9 February 2016. It occurred during Debate on bills and Committee proceeding on Immigration Bill.

My Lords, I support the amendment in the name of Lord Marlesford. I have relatives with dual Australian and British citizenship. Going in and out of Australia, they use their Australian passports; going in and out of Britain, they use their British ones. Even when flying from one to the other, they change their passports over because it is much quicker for them to get through immigration in both countries by using the passport of the country in which they land. However, there is then no record of the journey in the other passport. The passports of both countries should have a note that they have dual

citizenship and, possibly, give the passport number of the other country. My noble friend’s suggestion is eminently sensible.
