Trade (Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership) Bill [Lords]

I thank the hon. Member for giving way and appreciate that he feels very strongly about this issue. Will he clarify this for those listening—that the animal welfare standards that we abided by as part of the European Union are not those we are going to see in Canada, Australia or New Zealand? Indeed, we are allowing those goods to be imported tariff-free as part of deals such as this, but we are about to put a whacking great tariff on consignments and import safety checks

on food coming in from Europe. Does he recognise that we are sending different messages about the value of animal standards?
