Northern Ireland Protocol

Proceeding contribution from Aaron Bell (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Monday, 27 February 2023. It occurred during Ministerial statement on Northern Ireland Protocol.

Last June I was pleased to speak in favour of and vote for the Northern Ireland Protocol Bill, because I believed that

it was a necessary piece of legislation that served as a fall-back to address the legitimate concerns of the Unionist community, and to strengthen our hand in negotiations. Given the result that the Prime Minister has achieved, on which I congratulate him heartily, we have things that we did not think were possible. Does he agree that the Bill is not only no longer necessary but has no basis in law?
