Sewage Pollution

Proceeding contribution from George Eustice (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 6 September 2022. It occurred during Urgent question on Sewage Pollution.

The original vision of water privatisation was that we would have publicly listed companies on the London stock exchange and that water bill payers would also be shareholders. In the early 2000s, most of the water companies fell into the hands of private equity operators, and that was a change. The then Government

took a decision to issue licences to operate in perpetuity rather than for fixed periods, which was the case previously. There have been some changes since privatisation, but I am afraid his central charge that nationalisation is the way to get investment is wrong.
