Stalking Protection Bill

Proceeding contribution from Luciana Berger (Labour) in the House of Commons on Friday, 23 November 2018. It occurred during Debate on bills on Stalking Protection Bill.

I, too, welcome the courage of the people who have been able to speak out, but we should recognise that hundreds, if not thousands, of people throughout the country are unable to do so. I have heard victim impact statements read out in court from people who have not been able to come forward because the stalker’s behaviour has had such a negative impact

that it has affected their mental and physical health, and their ability to conduct their daily lives. That has impeded them from speaking out, although they may have wanted to.
