Future of Legal Aid

Proceeding contribution from Catherine West (Labour) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 1 November 2018. It occurred during Backbench debate on Future of Legal Aid.

Does my hon. Friend agree that the impact of the Government’s policies has not fallen evenly on all members of the population and that women have been particularly affected? Often, they will represent themselves and be repeatedly brought back to court by a perpetrator,

perhaps their ex-partner, and have to face the trauma all over again. That has been a particularly damaging result of the changes introduced by the right hon. Member for Epsom and Ewell (Chris Grayling).
