Budget Resolutions

Proceeding contribution from Cheryl Gillan (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 1 November 2018. It occurred during Budget debate on Budget Resolutions.

The Secretary of State makes a powerful point about maintaining our communities, and he will know that this Budget contains the starting elements of the arc between Oxford and Cambridge via Milton Keynes, which has the potential for more than 1 million houses being built across that swath of middle England. Does he agree that, in building those 1 million homes, we must be cautious that we do not sacrifice fragile environments such as the Chilterns area of outstanding natural beauty,

which could easily be buried under concrete if the project is not planned exceedingly carefully and the necessary protections are not put in place?
