EU Exit Negotiations

Proceeding contribution from Chuka Umunna (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 5 December 2017. It occurred during Urgent question on EU Exit Negotiations.

The Secretary of State talks about the will of the people, but of course the Government put leaving the customs union and the single market to the electorate at the general election and lost their majority. Can I ask him a very specific question? Clearly, there is no consensus on having an arrangement whereby only Northern Ireland is part of

the single market and the customs union, and no business or Government I have spoken to think that technology is the answer. He has said that he does not think that keeping the UK overall in the customs union and the single market is the answer, so what does he believe is?
