Passchendaele

Proceeding contribution from William Cash (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 13 July 2017. It occurred during Debate and Speaker's statement on Passchendaele.

The use of the word “wonderful” in this context is about admiration for the heroism and for the courage. My hon. Friend the Member for South West Wiltshire (Dr Murrison) used the word “wonder” with regard to how we feel when we look at what happened. Today happens to be the anniversary of my own father’s death in the battle of Hill 112, shortly after Maltot, on 13 July 1944. I have personal experience of this; I know that the hon. Gentleman has referred to his father.

The word “wonderful” in this context is about admiration for the heroism and for the courage, and I am not going to resile from that.
