Homelessness Reduction Bill

Proceeding contribution from Karen Buck (Labour) in the House of Commons on Friday, 27 January 2017. It occurred during Debate on bills on Homelessness Reduction Bill.

On the issue of working with local authorities, the Minister will know my concerns, which I raised in Committee, about Westminster City Council’s recent decision to discharge its duty to homeless people mainly outside the local authority, and in some cases as far away as the midlands. His colleague, the Minister for Housing and Planning, told me on “Sunday Politics”

last week that Westminster City Council was wrong to do that and that, in the long run, it should be stopped. Will the Minister confirm that today and tell me what he thinks the long run actually means?
