Business of the House

Business question from Marion Fellows (Scottish National Party) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 19 January 2017. It occurred during Business statement on Business of the House.

Airdrie Savings Bank, the UK’s last independent savings bank, is to end all business activities after 182 years, with the loss of 70 jobs. Secured loans and mortgages

will be transferred to the TSB, and customers will be helped to find alternative banking providers. As Unite the union has said,

“Airdrie Savings Bank has become yet another innocent victim of casino bankers.”

May we have a debate in Government time to discuss the state of UK banking?
