Report of the Iraq Inquiry

Proceeding contribution from Mike Gapes (Labour) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 6 July 2016. It occurred during Ministerial statement on Report of the Iraq Inquiry.

I voted for the action in 2003. It was a difficult decision, but I do not apologise. I believe that we were right to remove the fascist regime of Saddam Hussein. The Prime Minister referred to what has happened in Libya and Syria. Can he speculate about what might have happened in Iraq if Saddam or Uday Hussein had been in power in 2011? Is it not likely that the Ba’athist fascists in Iraq would have

killed more than the 500,000 dead Syrians and created more than the 11 million refugees who have fled their homes and been displaced in Syria?
