Considering the state of the economy and the financial position that this Government came into—she will be aware that one of her own colleagues said that there was no money left—and considering the longevity of both men and women, the Government had to take difficult decisions, as all
Governments of both shades have to. This Government had to take difficult decisions and we took them because they needed to be taken.
