Marriage Registration Certificates

Proceeding contribution from Julian Knight (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 8 December 2015. It occurred during Debate on Marriage Registration Certificates.

I congratulate my right hon. Friend on securing this important debate. I just want to clarify something. I completely get the point about the need for electronic progress. An electronic certificate is an interesting idea and perhaps one that would allow us to take a more modern approach, reflecting current social mores. However, would it meant that when people got married and signed the register in the side antechamber, the mother’s name would still not appear in that book?
