NHS Reform

Proceeding contribution from Lord Walney (Labour) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 16 July 2015. It occurred during Ministerial statement on NHS Reform.

The Secretary of State was unclear before. May I say that, as far as I am concerned, those of us on the Labour Benches are absolutely in favour of measures that will increase safety at the weekend, and that my party will never prosper as a mouthpiece for the British Medical Association? Is he not concerned that the porters and nurses, who are being asked to swallow a decade-long real-terms pay cut, will not be able to deliver such change given the level at which they are being demoralised?

If you will permit me, Mr Speaker, may I also say that I very much welcome the full acceptance of the recommendations of the Morecambe Bay inquiry? Will the Secretary of State ensure that the families will remain fully involved in ensuring that these measures are implemented, as well as accepted, by Government?
