Energy Bills

Proceeding contribution from Kerry McCarthy (Labour) in the House of Commons on Monday, 2 December 2013. It occurred during Ministerial statement on Energy Bills.

My constituents will take two things away from today’s statement. One is that they will still be paying much more for their fuel bills this winter, and the other is that the big six energy companies, despite a 75% rise in profits last year, will still be making more money. Why does the Secretary of State expect my constituents to share the pain, but the energy companies not to share the gain?
