Business of the House

Business question from Ian Murray (Labour) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 7 November 2013. It occurred during Business statement on Business of the House.

The House’s Select Committee system has proven itself time and again to be a cornerstone of our democracy. Given today’s serious allegations in The Times that some of its impartiality and independence might have been compromised, why will not the Leader of the House allow the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions to come to the House and tell Members and the public what he has told the Leader of the House, and to reassure us that that independence will be defended at all costs?
