Livestock: Transport

Written question asked by Huw Irranca-Davies (Labour) on Wednesday, 9 January 2013, in the House of Commons. It was due for an answer on Monday, 7 January 2013. It was answered by David Heath (Liberal Democrat) on Wednesday, 9 January 2013 on behalf of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

Question

To ask the Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs pursuant to his contributions of 13 December 2012, Official Report, column 529, on live animal exports, on how many occasions the authorisation to operate within the UK has been withdrawn from a live animal transporter in each of the last five years.

[135851]

Answer

The Animal Health and Veterinary Laboratories Agency (AHVLA) holds data for the period from 2010 to 2012 only. The AHVLA can only suspend or revoke the authorisations of transporters authorised by the competent authority in Great Britain. In 2010 such regulatory action was taken against two GB transporters. In 2011 such action was taken against one GB transporter and in 2012 such action was also taken against one GB transporter.
