Questions for Written Answer: Correction

Written statement made by Earl Howe (Conservative) on Wednesday, 24 November 2010 in the House of Lords, on behalf of the Department of Health.
I regret that the Written Answer given to Lord Alton of Liverpool on 12 November 2010 (Official Report, col. WA 141), was incorrect with respect to a meeting of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority’s (HFEA) Research Licence Committee. The HFEA has advised that a meeting of the authority’s Research Licence Committee did take place on 14 September 2006. On that occasion the committee did have before it the data subsequently published in the journal Human Fertility (volume 10, issue 3, pages 183-7). The HFEA advises that, from the papers before the Research Licence Committee, it cannot establish beyond any doubt the origin of the data reported in the study published in Human Fertility, although the papers confirm that the data originated from a National Health Service-based tertiary fertility unit.
