Welfare Reform Bill

Proceeding contribution from Oliver Heald (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Wednesday, 9 March 2011. It occurred during Debate on bills on Welfare Reform Bill.
Yes, absolutely right. It is important to bear down on that through the sort of changes now proposed. To return to the Work programme contracts, it is important to monitor carefully the performance of the contractors and sub-contractors to ensure that there is an equal level across the country. The Select Committee looked at the issue in a previous report on a pilot scheme in Glasgow. We felt that there were differences between the performance of the different contractors. Clearly, if there are weaknesses, it is important to address them, for the sake of all the people who want to find work. I am grateful for the opportunity to support this great Bill.
