Parliamentary Voting System and Constituencies Bill

I thank the noble Lord, Lord Myners. That is precisely what I mean. Noble Lords opposite say that equality of the size of constituencies is not important; they say that something else is important. The Bill, of course, provides for some of the other things that are important. They talked about community links and they talked about counties, as if counties were the same thing as constituencies. I totally dispute that. I live in Ayrshire. Ayrshire is, in fact, not a county. Everybody recognises it as a county, but it is not, as it has been divided in two. The noble Lord, Lord Foulkes, used to represent part of it. However, I do not say, and nobody says, ““I come from Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley””, or whatever the constituency is called. I say, ““I come from Ayrshire””. I have no emotional link with the constituency at all.
