Police Reform and Social Responsibility Bill

I do not accept that at all. I remind the hon. Gentleman that the last Prime Minister but one, Tony Blair, summoned chief constables from around the country and put them under pressure to deal with knife crime. That was a form of politicisation of the police, and it is not something that police commissioners will be doing. Democratically electing police commissioners will, in fact, legitimise them. I, for one, support all the provisions in the Bill, and commend it as an excellent and honourable measure that will increase the democratic process.
