That was the step that the then Government proposed in the Constitutional Reform and Governance Bill. That step was then proposed in the referendum, but it was rejected by the public because we lost the election. This is the team who won the election. Unless you are saying to us, ““We adopt the position that the Labour Party adopted””, I am unable to understand why it is. I hear the noble Lord, Lord Fowler, saying ““Come on”” from a sedentary position. If the reason is that the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats have adopted the miserable little compromise that they proposed because we adopted it, let them say so.
