Children, Schools and Families Bill

Proceeding contribution from Lord Coaker (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 23 February 2010. It occurred during Debate on bills on Children, Schools and Families Bill.
At present, faith schools can teach about homosexuality, but they are not required to do so in an accurate and balanced way. The principles in the Bill will ensure that that happens. Ofsted will be required to ensure that they are complied with, and we will look carefully at its reports. Of course I will meet my hon. Friend to discuss the Bill. As she will know, clause 11(8) refers to statutory guidance, and that guidance will go out for consultation. I should welcome a meeting with her—and any other hon. Friends—to discuss what should be included in the guidance, and to try to deal with some of her fears and concerns.
