Apprenticeships, Skills, Children and Learning Bill

My Lords, I am grateful to the noble Baroness, Lady Verma, for her support and to the Minister for her remarks. I hope that she will take the amendment away and consider whether, even if it is defective, between now and Third Reading we might in some way put it right. She would please not only every Member of your Lordships’ House but every Member of another place if she accepted that it is right and proper that Parliament should have its say on this matter; it is not likely to want to get in the way, I am sure. I think that every Member of the House of Commons is seriously concerned about these issues and would like an opportunity to debate them and give them parliamentary support. I do not expect that, after all the consultation, Parliament would turn down the advice of all the professionals who by that time will have advised on these targets, but Parliament would like to give these targets a fair wind and its support in a real way. I hope that we can achieve that by Third Reading. In the mean time, I beg leave to withdraw the amendment. Amendment 200 withdrawn. Amendment 201 had been withdrawn from the Marshalled List.
