I am very happy to do as the noble Baroness suggests.
While I am on my feet, I will try to be clearer than I may have been before. Teachers do have the discretion to decide whether or not to call the police. This is set out in new Section 550ZC(4) of the Education Act 1996 on the option to dispose of controlled drugs, and in new Section 550ZC(5)(b) of that Act on the option to return a stolen article to the owner or to dispose of it. However, I am happy for us to discuss this further between now and Report.
