Child Poverty Bill

Proceeding contribution from Jamie Reed (Labour) in the House of Commons on Monday, 20 July 2009. It occurred during Debate on bills on Child Poverty Bill.
My hon. Friend makes a compelling point. That is absolutely right. The lives of the children we have lifted from poverty are not simply lives transformed; in many cases, they are literally lives saved. Our actions have undoubtedly prevented significant cases of poverty, including child poverty, across the board. There should be pride in that—but while one British child still languishes in poverty, there can be no satisfaction.
