Equality Bill

Proceeding contribution from Baroness Harman (Labour) in the House of Commons on Monday, 11 May 2009. It occurred during Debate on bills on Equality Bill.
The transparency that is provided will enable us to see the progress that is being made by public authorities, in particular, in their employment practices. By extending the use of positive action in the workplace, the Bill will allow employers to take action to make their workforce more diverse and representative of the communities they serve when selecting between two equally suitable candidates. This positive action on race in recruitment and promotion will help to make organisations such as the police more effective.
