Welfare Reform Bill

Proceeding contribution from James Clappison (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 17 March 2009. It occurred during Debate on bills on Welfare Reform Bill.
I give Ministers the credit of thinking that they want to listen to the debate. They may want to hear what I have to say; they may want to listen to what their hon. Friends say. What I am saying is that if the Government press ahead with this provision, we will press it to the vote. I hope that I have made that clear, just as I have made everything else I have said absolutely clear. We are not against the Government on the Bill. We think that it does not go nearly far enough, and anybody can see that. On this issue, we are going to have to demur from the Government and, if it comes to it, we shall seek to press the amendment to the vote.
