This was part of a series of amendments arising from a schedule that I was pleased to speak to that at the time. To refresh the memory of the Committee, they dealt with the Guild of Freemen and the rights, especially of women, to succeed to membership of local guilds. They also dealt with the important question of the honorary freedom given to individuals. I was delighted then, and I repeat my thanks to the Minister and her colleagues for being so helpful, understanding and supportive of this matter. I am sure that the amendment will improve the situation of local democracy—which is what it is all about—in the way that we want. Therefore, it gives me great pleasure to move the amendment.
