Home Affairs and Justice

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Justice is advising me on the price of beer, which I have to confess to not being an expert on myself. I am not going enter into future decisions about tax levels, and I am sure that the hon. Gentleman would not expect me to. Strong and safe communities need local people to be given a fair say in the rules that we all live by. My hon. Friends the Members for City of Durham (Dr. Blackman-Woods), for Stourbridge (Lynda Waltho) and for Ealing, Acton and Shepherd's Bush (Mr. Slaughter) have argued that case very strongly with respect to lap-dancing clubs. We will tighten the controls on lap-dancing clubs, giving local people a greater say in whether those clubs should be allowed to operate in their neighbourhood.
