Employment Bill [Lords]

Proceeding contribution from Pat McFadden (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 4 November 2008. It occurred during Debate on bills on Employment Bill [Lords].
These debates are always enriched by union lawyers who have practised in this area, and I take all their points seriously. I am happy to maintain a dialogue with trade unions, as with anyone, about how the law operates, but I am not convinced that a duty on employers to help trade unions organise ballots is the right way forward, so I am afraid that I cannot agree with new clause 2.
