Food Security

Proceeding contribution from David Curry (Conservative) in the House of Commons on Monday, 30 June 2008. It occurred during Opposition day on Food Security.
May I invite the right hon. Gentleman, in response to the question that came from behind him, to assert that trade is a good thing—that if we do not buy New Zealand apples, they may not buy our whisky, for example—and that the environmental damage of a long sea voyage is almost certainly a great deal less than that of the final bit by lorry from the port to the processor to the supermarket? Trade has done a huge amount to advance the cause of civilisation, and I hope that none of the Front Benchers is going to suggest that we should do anything but seek to promote it.
