Listening to the hon. Gentleman’s rant, one would think that the incoming Conservative Government of 1979 inherited a perfectly functioning economy. Does he not accept one shred of responsibility for the massive economic changes that had to be made in the 1980s as a result of the disaster that this country had sleepwalked into in the ’70s?
