Police and Justice Bill

Proceeding contribution from Joan Ryan (Labour) in the House of Commons on Tuesday, 24 October 2006. It occurred during Debate on bills on Police and Justice Bill.
We are discussing the Lords amendments, and it would not be appropriate for me to discuss individual cases in the Chamber. However, Conservative Members insisted that bail would never be given in the US, and that the Senate would never ratify the treaty, yet bail was given and the Senate did ratify the treaty. Their assertions are falling one by one, so perhaps they should reassess their position. I give way to the hon. Member for Somerton and Frome.
