Compensation Bill [Lords]

Proceeding contribution from Nicholas Brown (Labour) in the House of Commons on Thursday, 8 June 2006. It occurred during Debate on bills on Compensation Bill (HL).
I sense that my hon. Friend is drawing her remarks to a close. Before she concludes, can she tell us anything about mesothelioma and the recent case in the House of Lords? As she is aware, there is a substantial desire—certainly among Labour Members—to return the law to the way in which it stood before the recent judgment. Is the Bill a suitable vehicle for doing that, and will the Government bring forward proposals so that the House can vote either to uphold the law as it is at present, or to put it back to what it was before? The House itself should make the final decision on the matter.
