I have a question for the Minister. Not long ago, I was in a hospital in north Yorkshire, where my husband was having a blood transfusion. There was a young doctor who had a very smart, silk tie, which was draping all over the place. He had a cannula in his hand, and I asked him whether it would be a good idea if he tucked his tie in. He said, ““Do you know, in the last hospital I worked in I was not allowed to wear a tie, but the management at this hospital have told me that I must be smart and wear a suit and a tie””. I said, ““Well a tie can be a source of infection””. He came back a few hours later and said, ““I have been thinking about it all day, and I have tucked my tie in””. It is important that something is laid down, because trusts should not have such opposing views.
