My Lords, I rise to speak to Amendments Nos. 9 and 10 standing in my name and that of the noble Lord, Lord Avebury. The effect of the two amendments is to maintain the status quo as regards arrest, detention and search of individuals in these circumstances. Among those individuals will be some of our most vulnerable children, as noble Lords have said and as the Minister emphasised in her comments at earlier stages. It is vital that the officers involved are adequately equipped and checked to manage the children with sensitivity when they are found.
The amendments are tabled to assist the Minister to fulfil the undertakings she previously made to consult on the matter and to report on those consultations.
